You are my hero.
Omgggg I can’t do this. My dog freaks out at the sight of a dog.
Dog is also lame on the front end….
I didn't see one bark or lunge – wanna come take a walk with our Golden Retriever walking past our neighbor's dog? That'll make for a good video 🙂
It's difficult to do this kind of training in reality with strangers walking past with dogs…alot easier if you can do it with another dog owner you know
10:03 why should you never grab the nose?
It’s not that treats cannot compete as a gratification, it’s because adrenaline completely shuts down everything but the fight or flight response.
Absolute nonsense and pain/fear based coercion. If you want to have to intimidate and coerce your dog through a miserable life…do what this idiot is doing. If you want a trainer tht actually has studied behavioural psychology and understands how to easily motivate a dog without being a bully… then get a force free trainer. Some people refuse to give up these cruel and moronic training styles, it's mainly beacuse they don't want to actually learn how to train.
He is limping on his right front was he injured?
I swear at 1:08 someone farts. Can hear it in the background. Played it back a few times and yup, definitely sounds like a toot 😂 Probably the dog.
I have this challenge with my rescue husky and the fact that you keep using “oh there’s a husky” is too funny… other dogs are just not challenging him.
Thank you for this video.
A question I have though, is if I pick up my husky… he stops hyperfocusing on the other dog and relaxes completely. Doesnt even try to look. But the second I put him back down it is freak out pulling hard trying to muscle me to get to the dog again.
Ps The pull video was brilliant and I got my husky walking next to me in less than a week.
Where the begining clip where the dog is in the yard with prince?
Really really good explanation I needed another trainers point of view to help with my clients dog, he is just super reactive. Been using the head halter but was a bit scared cus of how hard he was jerking so I used a prong collar for a session and he learned but I have to go back now that I know the threshold and re introduce the head halter.
finally someone not using a trained dog for these kinds of vids
My Great Dane is super leash reactive about other dogs and when I try to correct the behavior on a gentle leader, prong or regular collar she actively corrects me with her mouth. Almost biting but not biting down and it hurts and she is super powerful obviously… so it’s genuinely scary. I don’t know what to do and think the prong is making things worse or something I’m doing is making things worse. She goes zero to 100 in a split second so it’s nearly impossible for me to catch her before she is actively reacting. I am at a loss and have spent hours trying to fix this. Do you have any suggestions? She walks well otherwise but is constantly scanning for dogs to freak out about.
I’m at the point where I just don’t feel safe walking her. Which sucks.
I have a 3 years old beautiful weimeraner Ollie. We were out on a walk when he was only 5 months old and 2 loose dogs attacked us. He and I were traumatised and he was badly hurt. Now he gets scared when a dog approaches and so do I
I use a halti head collar and he is perfectly behaved walking at heal and just gets stressed when a dog arrives. I make him sit when a dog comes so they can pass, but many owners have no idea and it gets aggressive aggressive if they have dogs off leash and I ask them to put it on a leash. It's a constant battle trying to keep him safe.
Let's correct our dog's reactivity and hyper activity 💥🔥💥💥🔥 our dog CHUNDRA has a very high libido.
Holy shit can I get some good advice without having to sit through 8 ads like I’m at a time share meeting
Can this be done with multiple dogs at once if you have more than one that is reactive or does the training part have to be one on one before everyone gets integrated back into group walks?
This is a very helpful video. My dog recently got reactive to a young girl waiting for her school bus, holding an unbrella in the rain, with her back to us, doing absolutely NOTHING, and got all reactive… pulling, staring down, panting, and escalating to barking and then growl-barking. I was so frustrated and annoyed. Felt terrible for the poor girl. And embarrassed. Nothing I tried worked. I’d love help with this… a video on this type of scenario.
My 8 mo airedale is similar when the distance is far like the beginning, but when dogs are closer or against their fence barking at her, it's way harder. She screams and jumps and flips out. Not cars, not people, just other dogs. Griffin is way more chill than Buttons. She eventually gets over it after we pass. I try to reward her on the way when she's mellow, but she knows where they are and starts to get psyched up. I wish we had more people into practicing with us. She has a friend schnauzer that she's good with. He's too mellow and barely interested in her. Edited to add: prong collar is used.
My dog has been jumped before when bigger dogs were either off leash or the owners allowed long leash lead to get too close to us. So, now she freaks out and will pant and whine and pull me away. Also, happens when we get too close or suddenly another dog comes around the corner. I don't know how to train her to be calm even when another dog tries to come over.
PAW-some example of productive leash reactivity. I use to use the gentle leader regularly until my dog was attacked by a loose dog on our walk. It changed her as she was just reaching maturity and has become reactive towards other dogs ever since. I don't like the prong, or harness, or the rope type leads but I rotate often and will continue until it works. And yes lOTS of exercise and play. Thank you for addressing the problem and offering solutions.
excellent description of the thought process behind the freak out
My little guy has an issue with reactivity but it happens when other dogs are in its line of sight. I seriously have no idea how to deal with it. No amount of corrections seem to drill it into his head, he has no care in the world about food when there are dogs in front of him.
So basically my issue is that even though he learned the doorway method, he almost never pulls on walks when there are no distractions when dogs appear, done he forgets about everything. He is not aggressive , but he acts possessed to get near that other dog and jump on him and play no matter if the other dog is aggressive/barking at him, scared of him etc. Correcting him by snapping the leash even though worked at first does almost nothing now, he completely ignores food in those situations. I really dont know what to do. Today I went to the vet to get some stuff and a lady with a dog walked in, I had to hold him from his collar and he was going towards that dog and choking himself. I am thinking about getting a gentle leader and giving that a shot since it is one thing I have not tried out yet from the suggestions on this channel.
